The Coach

Strength Training Coach is an information website owned and operated by Coach Joe Ross. Joe has over 40 years of coaching experience at every level. He has coached youth baseball, high school football, semi-pro football and volunteered as a strength training assistant for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He has experience as a personal trainer and high school strength coach. He is currently active as a high school head football and strength coach as well as a PE teacher.

Joe is no stranger to athletics. Long before he became a coach, he participated in high school football, basketball, and baseball and went on to play football at the college level at the University of Connecticut. He began Olympic lifting 35 years ago and was involved in competition. Joe has also received numerous awards in the hammer throw, and competed all over the United States and Canada. He was a National Champion in 1980 and a 2-time All American in the hammer throw. Today he still works out on a regular basis with a combination of free weights and aerobic exercise.

Joe lives eats and breathes strength training and sports. I should know because I'm his wife. We have been married for 20 years and I have never seen him as passionate about anything else (outside of his devotion to his family and his love for Jesus Christ.)

As a multi-sport athlete himself, Coach Ross understands the training needs of various types of athletes. He can offer advice on strength, flexibility, long-term strategy, and short-term goals. Coach Ross has a passion for strength training and he brings that passion to his high school students. He is hoping to offer some of his knowledge and experience to you.
