Strength Training Leads to Athletic Success
This website will provide coaching to anyone who is interested in developing a sound
strength training program to enhance their athletic performance. It is my goal to provide
information to athletes, coaches and parents. This personal coaching can give you an edge
to help you succeed in your athletic endevors.
Even if you have a limited weight lifting background you can successfully develop an effective training program,
no matter what your age, or level of experience. Youth strength training has become a popular field recently and I encourage athletes to start training their bodies at an early age.
I'm sorry, I can't offer you any shortcuts or "magic bullets". I can offer time-tested methods of
muscle development that have helped countless players on every level improve their athletic performance.
I have over 45 years of athletic experience...both as a coach and as a competitor. One of the greatest joys
about coaching for me is helping people achieve their goals. I have helped athletes from all levels (high school,
college, and professional) reach amazing goals through training and hard work.
I am currently active as a head coach in high school football. I know that success in your sport
starts in the weight room. If there is one common denominator in training with weights, it is that you need to work incredibly
hard.
Training with weights is an important part of a balanced exercise routine that includes flexibility exercises and aerobic activity. Aerobic activity makes your muscles use oxygen more effectively and also strengthens your lungs and your heart.
When you lift weights your muscles are working against the extra weight. We call this resistance. Resistance increases the amount of muscle mass in your body. Muscles become more effective, stronger and larger than before.
Weight lifters use free weights or machines to achieve slightly different results.
Free weights work a group of muscles at the same time. They include hand weights, barbells, dumbells,
Weight machines tend to isolate a individual muscle so that you can focus on it specifically.
People also use resistance bands and their own body weight for exercise. Push-ups and sit-ups are examples.
There is a big difference between strength training, powerlifting, and competetive bodybuilding.
This website teaches the methods I spoke of earlier to develop muscle.

Olympic lifting, or powerlifting focus on the maximum weight a person can lift at one time.
Competetive body building involves maximizing muscle definition, body symmetry or balance, and muscle size.
Although I was involved in Olympic lifting for years I am now an avid strength trainer, and that is what this website is all about.
If you are a youth just starting out, an athlete wanting to know more about how strength can help you in your sport, or even a weekend warrior wanting to learn as much as you can to improve your health and lifestyle...
